Surgery consists of removing excess skin from around the areola, and possibly also from the bottom of the breast, with shifting of the skin of the breast to tighten the skin envelope and insertion of additional volume such as an implant for added projection and smoothing of the skin. In doing so, the position of the nipple and areola can be elevated to a more youthful figure.
The incisions for the Breast Lift surgery vary, depending on the extent of sagging of the breast and the amount of loose skin overlying. In some conditions Breast Augmentation is performed along with Breast Lift operation. In such case a breast implant is inserted either directly under the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall. The surgery for Breast Lift will take about 2 - 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure for Breast Lift, the areola is also reduced in size, and the nipple and areola are repositioned in relation to the new contour of the breast.
