How is surgery performed?
The operation is performed under general anesthesia. It is done laparoscopically through small incisions on the abdomen. Small tubes with a tiny camera on it are then inserted to visualize the placement of the lap-band. The band is fastened around the upper stomach to create a pouch. The port is then placed underneath the skin on the top part of the abdomen. The band can be inflated by injecting saline into the port. Also, it can be deflated by removing saline in the port. The operation is performed in approximate an hour.
